The Cook & Boardman Group Acquires Building Specialties Company

The Cook & Boardman Group, LLC (“Cook & Boardman” or “C&B”), a leading specialty distributor of commercial door entry solutions and systems integration services announced today the acquisition of Birmingham, Alabama-based Building Specialties. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Building Specialties was founded in 1954 by W.P. “Chief” and Leola Caddell whose vision and dedication provided the foundation for the company to become established in the commercial door and hardware business. Through the years, Bill Caddell, Jr., Paul, and Pat Caddell provided many years of leadership which allowed the company to continue successfully into a third-generation family business. The CEO and owner, Paul Caddell, attributes the success of the company to the hard work and professionalism of the employees who are in the Building Specialties family.

The company will continue to operate under the Building Specialties name and customer contacts will remain unchanged as a result of the acquisition. Mr. Caddell will continue to manage the business under C&B’s ownership. 

The Cook & Boardman Group is a portfolio company of Littlejohn & Co., LLC. Building Specialties represents C&B’s ninth acquisition since being acquired by Littlejohn in October 2018.

The Cook & Boardman Group Acquires Advantech

The Cook & Boardman Group, LLC (“Cook & Boardman” or “C&B”), a leading specialty distributor of commercial door entry solutions and systems integration services announced today the acquisition of Dover, Delaware-based Advantech, Inc. (Advantech). Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 1990 by Eric Schaeffer and three partners, Advantech is a full service security integration company serving a wide range of educational, governmental, commercial and healthcare customers in southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and the Washington D.C. metro area. The company specializes in large facility security, fire and life safety systems, access control, video surveillance, intrusion protection, emergency communication and identity management solutions. 

Under terms of the agreement, the company will continue to operate under the Advantech name as a division of A3 Communications, which was acquired by Cook & Boardman in April 2019 and is one of the nation’s fastest growing systems integration companies. Advantech CEO Dave Sweeney will continue to lead the organization after the acquisition.

Cook & Boardman (La Vergne, TN) Recognized as a Top Place to Work

Cook & Boardman’s Nashville-based branch, a leading distributor of commercial door entry solutions, announced today that the company has been recognized as a 2020 Top Workplace in Middle Tennessee by The Tennessean. 

The award is solely based on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey. The anonymous assessment uniquely measured 15 drivers of engaged cultures that are critical to the success of any organization, including alignment, execution and connection.

The company is a divisional branch of The Cook & Boardman Group, LLC, and is overseen by Branch Manager Tim Elam. Located at 345 Mason Road in La Vergne, the office employs 58 associates and specializes in providing the Volunteer State and beyond (including national accounts) with commercial doors, frames and hardware.

The Cook & Boardman Group Acquires HC Quality Doors

The Cook & Boardman Group, LLC (“Cook & Boardman” or “C&B”), a leading specialty distributor of commercial door entry solutions and systems integration services announced today the acquisition of Gordonville, Pennsylvania-based HC Quality Doors (“HC Quality”). Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Serving Lancaster and the southeastern Pennsylvania market, HC Quality is a leading supplier of commercial doors, door hardware and aluminum store fronts (construction divisions eight and 10). The company offers full installation and maintenance services through its subsidiary Quality Door Service (“QDS”), which was included in the acquisition.

The company will retain the HC Quality name and customer contacts will remain unchanged as a result of the acquisition. The executive team of Levi Lantz and co-owners Ray Harnish and Mahlon Stoltzfus will continue to manage the business.

The Cook & Boardman Group Acquires Botzum Bros Hardware

The Cook & Boardman Group, LLC (“Cook & Boardman” or “C&B”), a leading specialty distributor of commercial door entry solutions and systems integration services announced today the acquisition of Akron, Ohio-based Botzum Bros Hardware, LLC (“Botzum Bros” or “Botzum”). Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Botzum Bros is a family-owned business that has served the Northeastern Ohio construction market since 1892. The company is recognized as a premiere supplier of architectural doors, frames, hardware and related products to the commercial construction and multi-family housing markets in the region.

The Cook & Boardman Group Acquires Builders' Hardware & Specialty

The Cook & Boardman Group, LLC ("Cook & Boardman" or "C&B"), a leading specialty distributor of commercial door entry solutions and systems integration services announced today the acquisition of Erie, Pennsylvania-based Builders' Hardware & Specialty Company (Builders' Hardware or BHS). Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Established in 1956, Builders' Hardware is a full-service provider of architectural doors, frames, hardware and related products (including access control, electronic security and Division 10 specialty products) to  nonresidential construction markets in western Pennsylvania, northwest Ohio and western New York. The company will continue to operate under the Builders' Hardware & Specialty name as a division of Cook & Boardman.
